Texas A&M picked up the biggest commitment in its 2006 recruiting class with Haltom linebacker Anthony Lewis committing to the Aggies on Sunday.
"It's been a long process, but they have kind of always been right there throughout the whole recruiting process," Lewis said. "It was a tough decision, but in the end, I had to go with my instincts."
Lewis (6-foot-2, 228 pounds), a member of the Star-Telegram's Elite 11, had narrowed his choices to Oklahoma and Texas A&M. He said last week he wanted to wait until Texas A&M selected its defensive coordinator before making a decision. The Aggies announced Gary Darnell on Friday as the new defensive coordinator. Lewis visited Texas A&M this weekend and had a chance to talk with Darnell.
"I had a very good visit with Coach Darnell," Lewis said. "He seemed to fit in very well there and with the program."
As a senior, Lewis recorded 132 tackles along with five sacks and four forced fumbles.
Lewis is the 16th commitment for the Aggies and the first who was a member of the Star-Telegram's National Top 100 recruits.

Hilarious - with such a stupid comment, will this guy even be able to qualify fo college?
he could damn sure get into Texes Tek.
Admission ispar at both schools these days....
Tough times for the Wrecked Crew - first, another trip to the Toilet Bowl, and now recruiting posts...Maybe the Ags would be better served to talk about the basketball team and it's 25 straight home games to open its season......Aggots....
what else am I going to talk about. 2006 started for us on November 26th. I am positive about the future, and you will continue to hear about it here on roosterbowl.com!
Merry Christmas, by the way.
(my word verification word is "okunt"...strange)
funny too, how you only note that A&M opened with 25 straight home games, but no mention that they have won all of them so far, while Tek is "strugalling".
The men's team is terrible right now. 0 seniors, 6 juniors, 2 sophomores, and 7 freshmen.
Only 2 of the juniors and 1 of the sophomores see p/t. It's freshman team that makes a lot of mistakes.
I would like to think, however, that had Tech scheduled every one of its non-cons at home - like the Ags did - the guys would be better than 6-6. We won't even get in to the strength of scedule, because it's laughable.
The Ags are probably on par with Tech, even tough they're 9-0, or whatever.
I would agree with the on-par statement. A&M may even be a little better at this point, and we'll know in less than a month. A&M's schedule has been soft, until we whipped Auburn, but the true test is in conference.
