Oh. Definitely sad.

I was anchoring the news in Austin at that time- and spent many days in CS covering the collapse, the funerals, including the two GWB attended, and another set of funerals in Austin.

God bless those families of those fallen Ags- that was truly a heartbreaking time.

appreciate your comments Fletchy. The Bonfire tragedy is one of those events in my life that I will always remember where I was, etc, when I heard about it. I can tell you exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard about the Challenger, Reagan being shot, 9/11, and Bonfire collapsing. There are only a handful of things that will ever make that status for me (believe it or not, the Zack Thomas interception return in '95 is on that list, although it didn't have the human tragedy of the others).

I took Blake to Bonfire in '96. I think he liked it, but he may not admit it. He will however admit to almost burning my brother's house down that night.

There is a movement now to consider bringing back Bonfire. I hope they do.

I remember you calling me, but I found out about it much earlier that morning, in the O.R. locker room at Arlington Memorial Hospital. It was about 6:45 am when someone called me into the lounge to see it on TV.
